2009-12-23

The CADIAL project has received the 2009 Prime Minister Award for special achievements in the field of e-Government in Croatia and the 2009 "Golden Tesla's Egg" Award of the VIDI publishing house for the best innovative solution in ICT for the category Academic Institutions.

The CADIAL project investigates concept recognition in text and retrieval models for semi-structured (XML) documents.

With the coordination of Prof. Marie-Francine Moens at Department of Computer Science, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, this work is done in collaboration with the University of Zagreb (Department of Electronics, Microelectronics, Computer and Intelligent Systems, Faculty of Engineering and Computing - Prof. Bojana Dalbelo Bašić, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences - Prof. Marko Tadić), and the Croatian Information Documentation Referral Agency (HIDRA).

The team have designed, implemented and evaluated software for automated text categorization and text clustering. In addition, a seach engine was developed that allows for the retrieval of the structured elements of text documents. The results are applied on Croatian legislative texts. The software is currently integrated in the HIDRA services and used by the citizens of Croatia: see CADIAL search engine. The results of the CADIAL project are published in a book.
